Coquitlam does not require a permit to build a fence. Some walls built instead of a fence on steep ground may need a building permit.
- Up to 1.8 m (6 ft) in residential zones.
- No more than 1.3 m (4.3 ft) forward of the front face of the house (not including exterior side yards facing a street).
- On a corner lot, no more than 1 m (3.3 ft) within 6 m (20 ft) of the corner.
- A retaining wall and fence together may not exceed 3 m (9.8 ft).
